Self-direction

Students have the ability to make choices that influence their learning, behavior, and future success. Self-direction means taking responsibility for their actions, setting goals, and making decisions that move them toward those goals. Parents can support this growth by encouraging children to make responsible decisions, solve problems independently, and take ownership of their schoolwork. By providing guidance, establishing routines, and celebrating effort and progress, parents can help students build confidence and accountability. Together, parents and educators can empower students to understand that their daily choices shape their growth and that they have the power to steer themselves toward success.
